6 Months Old

Six months ago today I began this blog. When I began it I wasn't sure I would have enough to say or if anyone would even read it. But after six months I find that as I go around in my daily life there is much to say and I have made several online friends. My real life family and friends can also keep track of the goings on at our home.

So from today until next Saturday, David's 13th birthday, anyone leaving a comment will have their name placed into a drawing for a candle from Old Virginia Candle Company. The comment doesn't have to be about anything in particular, be creative.

Leave a comment to enter the drawing

The give-away candle (pictured above) is a Virginia Candle Company exclusive 8.5 ounce tri-scented candle. The scents are "Snickerdoodle/Pear Crumble/Toffee Crunch."

What a beautiful wedding dress you had. And what a handsome couple you made. Ray and I will have been married 39 years on the 29th. Yeah, where did those years go? I had $300 to spend on a wedding. Made my own simple dress and veil. My side of the church had two people -- a girlfriend and her date (who I had never met). Ray's side had all of his relatives.
We were so unaware of what was in front of us but few of us do. It is difficult to recognize those two young kids as being us today. Gray hair, wrinkles and extra weight. BUT, we've changed on the inside even more. We are no longer the two selfish, self-centered brats we began our lives together as. But now, as a Christ-centered couple, our rough edges have been chipped off. The road had pot-holes so big I thought they would swallow us up and be the end of us, but God carried us through and we are enjoying the fruits of "hanging in there" during those rough times.
I, for one, am glad you've been blogging for the past 6 months. Your writing has caused me to think, laugh and to become familiar with a very special family within the family of God. I sincerely appreciate your ability and willingness to be open -- to write about the good days and the not so good days. It has made you real to me. Thank you and I thank God for the three of you.

Rita- I really think that so often brides become so wrapped up in the wedding and ignore the death til us part. As one person I knew wanted her vows to say "as long as love shall last." Guess what, love didn't last for them and they divorced within a few years of their vows.
My dress was made by a friend of the lady who held the backyard Bible club that I accepted Christ at.
Most of our wedding was put together by loving ladies of our church- the flowers and food were all done at cost. The food was made by a wonderful German lady in the church and many of the other ladies in the church made sure the reception tables were all kept full.
I understand about the outside changes- that's why we have been hitting the gym. But God, the potter, has certainly been working on the wet, lumpy bride of clay.
Congratulations on your 39th anniversary. That is wonderful. Do you have any fun plans?
Thanks for your kind words on my blog. I have enjoyed so much getting to know others through it. We seem to have few dull moments around here! I really think that we all have experiences that God wants us to pass on to others.

Liz- thank you and welcome!

I have written on a couple occassions. Love your blog. I too have an adopted child. She is now 21 years old and also has been in special education all the time she was in school. So seeing things you have gone though is some things similar with our daughter. Thing is she was not emotionally handicapped. She is learning disabled, but yet a loving and very special young lady. Thanks for your insight.

Congratulations on your 6 month blogging anniversary. Blogging has become very rewarding and fun for me as well. I hope that I will be able to some how permanently save my blog because it is like my diary and documentation of our family history.
